Correction of Errors in Birth Certificate

Correction of Clerical Error in Birth Certificate

In the Philippines, correcting clerical errors in civil registry records—such as a misspelled last name, an incorrect middle name, or a wrong date of birth—requires legal procedure. To correct clerical errors in your PSA birth certificate, you must file a petition for correction with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) or the Local Civil Registry office where your document is registered.

Furthermore, you need to provide supporting documents. In some cases, you may be able to make administrative corrections to your birth certificate without needing a judicial order. However, if there are more typographical errors involved, you have to obtain a judicial order in accordance with the procedures set out in Rule 108 of the Rules of the Court. In this matter, you will need the assistance of a lawyer to represent you in court.
